Today marks 100 days in our wait for LOA (Letter of Approval), the final "stamp of approval" from China for the adoption of our daughter, He Tong (Jenna). I honestly didn't think we'd be part of the "Century Club" since things were moving along so smoothly, but due to many changes with computer systems in China, we've hit a standstill that is beyond our control. Our adoption agency said that aside from dealing with the SARS incident in China several years ago, these computer problems that are causing delays for us and many other families is unprecedented. We were told to expect delays, so I shouldn't be surprised...but it doesn't make the wait any easier. I long so badly to have Jenna in my arms. But as we continue to wait and anticipate having her home, I must cling to Psalm 27:14, "Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD."
In many ways my heart and mind are thousands of miles away in China, wondering how Jenna is doing and when I will get to travel there to bring her home. So today, I am very thankful to be surrounded by family. All of my siblings, their spouses and children have gathered at Devil's Lake in southern Michigan for a reunion. The last time we were all here together was five years ago, and we planned to do this at our mom's memorial service back in October. I feel sad that my mom isn't here with us, and I'm sad that Jenna isn't here to enjoy being with all of her cousins, but I'm trying to enjoy the moments of being together laughing, talking, and sharing hearts. I know mom would be so glad that we committed to do this and we're now here having a blast!
We are only guaranteed today, but if day 101 of our wait comes tomorrow, I will continue to cherish time with my amazing family and continue dreaming of my baby girl thousands of miles away. God is faithful and in His perfect timing, she will be with us.
